DC Expert battery management (200-500 kVA)
DC Expert provides real-time insights into battery string health and remaining runtime. This feature allows for proactive battery maintenance planning, preventing unexpected load losses due to battery degradation. DC Expert’s battery testing methodology is designed for superior accuracy and assurance compared to other manufacturers.
During a battery test, the rectifier maintains DC link voltage, ensuring consistent battery discharge power month over month.
DC Expert battery test method
- Consistent testing provides battery runtime information accurate to within +/-3%.
- Battery time remaining automatically updates with load shedding during utility outages.
- Battery string health is assessed through periodic testing.
- Programmable, automatic monthly testing can be scheduled for any day and time.
- Monthly tests involve very light battery discharges, consuming less than 10% of available battery runtime, ensuring readiness for utility outages.
- Light load testing does not negatively impact battery life.
- The rectifier remains active during battery testing, sharing the load with the battery for consistent testing regardless of inverter load.
- The critical load remains protected during battery testing as the rectifier does not shut off. If a battery fails during a test, the system will recover 100%.
- DC Expert logs the results of the last 30 tests for trend analysis.
- Supports both valve-regulated (maintenance-free) and wet cell batteries.
Other UPS manufacturers’ battery test methods
- Other UPS manufacturers typically turn off the rectifier to initiate battery testing.
- The battery is solely responsible for supporting the inverter load.
- Battery load varies with changes in the critical load between tests.
- Inconsistent battery test loads lead to inaccurate battery runtime estimates.
- If a battery fails during testing, the inverter must perform an emergency transfer to bypass to avoid dropping the critical load.
With technology essential for 24/7 operations, power protection has evolved from a secondary concern to a critical component of an organization’s technology infrastructure. The 9315 offers various power systems designed to integrate with your technology and meet your availability needs.
Powerware Hot Sync technology
Critical loads require enhanced protection. Eaton developed a unique paralleling system that provides redundancy and capacity with high system availability. Powerware Hot Sync technology minimizes system risks. Unlike traditional paralleling systems that rely on communication between modules for synchronization, load sharing, and selective tripping, which can introduce a system-level single point of failure, Powerware Hot Sync eliminates this need. Each UPS module can independently synchronize and support the critical load, removing the traditional single point of failure.
Powerware Hot Sync-redundant (225-500 kVA modules)
Powerware Hot Sync-redundant
This two-module system delivers exceptional system reliability and availability. It allows for full maintenance on both modules and the parallel cabinet without requiring an external maintenance bypass or interrupting the critical load’s conditioned power. This capability is unique among UPS manufacturers.
Powerware Hot Sync-capacity
This system topology supports up to eight modules in parallel, catering to larger and more critical applications. Advanced monitoring and automated controls ensure ease of operation, comparable to a single-module system.
Powerware Hot Sync-capacity (225-750 kVA modules)
The 9315 offers scalability, allowing effortless expansion from a single module system to a two-module Powerware Hot Sync redundant system, and further to an eight-module Powerware Hot Sync capacity system, providing flexibility for future needs.
Powerware Sync Control Technology
This optional feature enables the seamless transfer of critical loads between two separate UPS system outputs (single module or Powerware Hot Sync capacity systems). Through downstream solid-state transfer switches, Powerware Sync Control Technology synchronizes the outputs, allowing automatic transfer between UPS systems. This ensures that critical loads remain supported by UPS-grade power 24/7, even during scheduled or unscheduled maintenance. The technology also provides remote monitoring of control operations and alarms.
Powerware Hot Tie Technology
Powerware Hot Tie Technology is ideal for scenarios with two UPS systems powering separate loads, enabling load transfer between units for continuous protection. It is particularly beneficial when combined with Powerware Hot Sync Technology, offering an even greater level of redundancy and protection for paralleled systems.
Powerware Hot Tie operates in five modes:
- Normal mode: The tie is open, and the output is synced to bypass.
- Parallel mode: The tie is closed, and the output is synced to one of the UPS bypasses.
- Combined load mode: The tie is closed, and one UPS is operating in service mode.
- System isolation mode: The tie is open, and loads and UPS are removed from the isolated load bus.
- Automatic mode: The tie is continuously available, providing dual power path redundancy without limitations for scheduled maintenance.

Accessories
Maintenance bypass module (MBM)
This floor-mounted, enclosed cabinet provides continuous support for critical loads during UPS module servicing or testing. It includes the maintenance isolation breaker (MIS) and maintenance bypass breaker (MBP).
Power distribution module (PDM)
The PDM distributes output power from the UPS to critical applications. Each PDM consists of two panels, each with 42 poles that can be configured as needed. Additional distribution capacity can be achieved by daisy-chaining these cabinets.
Remote monitor panel (RMP)
The RMP allows customers to monitor the UPS system’s operational status from virtually any location within a facility. It uses simple backlit status indicators and an alarm horn to alert users to changes in the UPS system’s operational status. Multiple RMPs can be installed throughout a facility.
Relay interface module (RIM)
The RIM provides a critical communication link for enhanced reliability, utilizing serial interface and relay contact closures to support up to eight critical loads. It notifies users of operational status changes, enabling timely responses.
