The DataSafe® HX Top Terminal Batteries from EnerSys are a range of Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries designed for Information Technology (IT) and Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) applications. Available in 6 V and 12 V blocks from 4.8 to 123 Ah, they combine high reliability and long service life with a compact footprint, providing a dependable reserve-power source for protecting critical systems.
Overview
DataSafe HX top terminal batteries bring together a set of design features that maximize reliability while delivering strong performance and excellent service life. Their gas-recombination VRLA chemistry keeps gas evolution to a minimum, so they can be installed in cabinets or on stands—in offices or close to the equipment they protect—letting sites make the most of available space while lowering storage and maintenance costs. The result is high performance in less space than conventional standby power batteries.
Features and benefits
- Flame-retardant case and cover (UL94) meeting UL1778.
- Self-resealing, flame-arresting vents.
- Hermetically sealed containers and covers for leak resistance across the life of the product.
- Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) separators that fully absorb the electrolyte.
- High-performance brass threaded receptacle, bolt terminal, or faston terminals.
- Increased energy density.
- Computer-optimized electrochemistry for higher power output down to the 15-minute rate at 1.67 volts per cell (VPC).
- 100% initial battery capacity.
- Classified as non-spillable.
Construction
- High-conductivity terminals — brass insert with threaded receptacle (12HX80–12HX540), bolt terminal (12HX80-FR–HX150-FR), or faston tabs (HX25-FR–HX150-FR) for maximum conductivity and easy installation.
- High-integrity terminal seal — compression grommet (12HX205-FR–12HX540-FR) or dual welded/epoxy seal (12HX25-FR–12HX150-FR) designed for long life.
- Pressure relief — self-resealing, flame-arresting vents with a low-pressure non-return valve that prevents atmospheric oxygen from entering the cell.
- Rugged positive plates — high-performance grids designed to resist corrosion and prolong active life.
- Balanced negative plates — tuned for optimum recombination efficiency.
- Tough cell containers — thick-wall plastic that resists shock and vibration, with flame-retardant material as the standard offering.
- Separators — low-resistance microporous Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) that holds the electrolyte.

Cabinets and racks
DataSafe HX top terminal 12 V batteries can be housed in matching seismic-rated cabinets and racks. The battery cabinets are certified to UBC Zone 4 under the 2012 International Building Code (IBC) and 2013 California Building Code (CBC), Seismic Design Category with Ss = 2.0 and Importance Factor 1.5, at or below grade (cabinet data sheet AM-DSCAB-RS). Cabinet accessories and inter-unit/inter-tier connections are included in cabinet pricing, sized at the 15-minute discharge rate to 1.67 VPC end voltage.
The battery racks are available in non-seismic as well as UBC Zone 4 configurations, at or below grade, with data sheets by model. Rack accessories vary by site application and are quoted and sold separately once the system is sized.
