UPS Maintenance Case Study

An Ounce of Prevention is Worth a Pound of Cure

Milwaukee, WI

Journal Media Group, headquartered in Milwaukee, is a media company with print and digital publishing operations serving 14 U.S. markets in nine states, including the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Naples Daily News, The Commercial Appeal in Memphis, and Ventura County Star in California.

Formed in 2015 through a merger of the newspaper operations of The E.W. Scripps Company and Journal Communications, Inc., the company serves local communities with daily newspapers, affiliated community publications, and a growing portfolio of digital products that inform, engage and empower readers and advertisers.

In support of the IT operations of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, QPS provides the preventative maintenance services on the MGE 225kVA UPS system. As preventative maintenance is key in prolonging the service life of critical power equipment, in addition to the routine inspection, QPS replaced the system’s batteries and capacitors. This allowed the system to sustain required runtime, prevent thermal runaway, and ensure uninterrupted operations in the event of a utility outage. The batteries were recycled in accordance with best environmental practice and compliant with EPA, DOT, and all state and local codes and regulations.
